3 Weight Loss Roadblocks Parents Face And How To Overcome Them

Posted on: 8 April 2019

If you're like many people, you tend to put on a bit of weight during the winter months. Now that spring has finally arrived, you undoubtedly have plans to increase your outdoor activity level and hopefully shed some excess pounds as a result, but you probably also know that losing weight can be a serious struggle — especially for those who have young children in the home. After all, parents often just don't have the time to be as physically active as they'd like. However, many don't realize that an increasing number of gyms provide on-site childcare as a convenience to their customers with kids. Following are three more suggestions for overcoming the weight loss roadblocks faced by parents.

Shop Smart

Most parents with families to feed adhere to strict food budgets that don't quite allow for everything to be fresh from the farm, but many people believe that the best dietary path to weight loss involves consuming large amounts of organic fruits and vegetables. It's true that plant-based proteins are good nutritional choices, but buying fresh seasonal fare isn't the only option. When the produce you like isn't in season, its frozen counterparts are equally nutritious. Modern flash-freezing and packaging methods preserve produce much better than their historical counterparts.

Plant a Garden

Another way parents can keep costs down is to grow what they can at home. Nothing is fresher or tastes better than vegetables you've grown yourself. Unless you grow a huge garden, it won't take up too much of your time once you do the initial work of getting the ground ready and planting the seeds. Even if you live in an apartment with only a patio or balcony, you can still grow a lot of your own produce in containers. For instance, snow peas and cherry tomatoes can both be grown in hanging baskets, and lettuce, kale, carrots, broccoli, and other vegetables can all be grown in planters and pots. As an added benefit, this will help your children develop an understanding of where their food comes from.

Don't Let Yourself Get Too Hungry

Perhaps the biggest weight loss roadblock faced by parents is that they're extremely hungry by the time they get dinner on the table, and busy parents often find it way too easy to succumb to the lure of fast food. Keeping healthy snacks on hand throughout the course of the day helps keep you from making poor dietary decisions as the result of being too hungry.

A New Summer Style

A couple of months ago, my beautiful, intelligent, and talented sister married her best friend in a simple, church ceremony. On this special day, a hair stylist curled my hair and pinned it on top of my head. Because I normally keep my hair short, I had to grow it out for a few months before the wedding in order to achieve the look I wanted. Now that the wedding is over, my long hair is starting to aggravate me. Due to the summer heat and humidity, it is beginning to break off and look frizzy! I am in desperate need of a new summer style. On this blog, you will discover the best types of haircuts for the steamy, summer months. Enjoy your new look!
